In 2008 Lee Cornell and Tom Ladshaw were at Bill's home in Evansville, IN to do the videotaping of Bill's amazing "Tape Over the Mouth" secret for the limited release license to the routine he was offering.
They had all of the equipment set up and ready to roll, when Lee asked Bill if anyone had ever captured, on video, the story of his career. To Lee and Tom's surprise, Bill said no one had ever documented his six decades in the entertainment business.
So, Lee and Tom decided to take advantage of this great opportunity (since they were already set up anyway) to sit down with Bill and have him take them step-by-step through his show biz history.
The result is a nostalgic look back at one of the greatest vents of the past 60 years.
Bill covers in great detail his life in show business. He tells how he came up with the idea for all of his unforgettable puppet characters - Feldon the Unspeakable Frog, Grendle the Troll, Happy Hobie, Luke the Reluctant Lion, Pfyre the Dragon and, of course, Chuck Norwood.
He also reviews the venues he worked in, the stars of the day he was on the bill with and so much more.
You'll also see a clip of Bill you've probably never seen before from the early 1960's.
Lot's of photos are woven into Bill's story to make this a real treat to watch.

Sammy King's amazing comedy and ventriloquism career spans more than 50 years.
Over the decades he has performed at the world's top venues, in Las Vegas, at the world famous Crazy Horse Saloon in Paris and the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies Variety Show.
Some of his many television appearances include the Ed Sullivan Show, HBO and the Jerry Lewis Telethon. |
He has been the opening act for such stars as Cher, Ray Charles and Tony Bennett.
An accomplished classical guitarist, Sammy uses his musical skills in his most famous routine with his partner, Francisco the Mexican Parrot. He has performed this hysterical routine over 25,000 times since 1958!
In 2009, Sammy decided it was time to retire Francisco to the Vent Haven Museum in Ft. Mitchell, KY.
So, he gave one final performance on July 18, 2009 to a crowd of 425 of his peers at the Vent Haven International Ventriloquist Convention. The routine was professionally video recorded.
Sammy received one of the longest standing ovations in the history of the convention. There was not a dry eye in the house as he then donated Francisco to the museum.

Bob appeared on television and radio many times over the years and also created several commercial educational training films. One, which was made in 1965 about the properties and safety of natural gas, is still used in the industry today.
He worked countless corporate events, shopping malls, dinner clubs and also portrayed Edgar Bergen, Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd for the Museum of Broadcasting in Chicago.
After reminiscing about his past, Bob performs with his figures Junior and Speedy Wheeler. Very funny routines with two beautiful Marshall dummies.
Although Bob was never a full-time performer, he certainly was a true professional and in great demand over the course of his career. He never had an agent, but was so well received by audiences, that he kept as busy as he wanted just by word-of-mouth from happy clients.
Bob also has been on the Vent Haven Board of Advisors since 1975.

It was originally distributed by WNYC-TV and WNET-TV, both New York Public Television affiliates.
Broadcast in the New York area only four times over the course of 1979, this program has been unavailable for many years. |
The original videotape master was destroyed, but a good copy was located, digitally re-mastered and "cleaned up" for this re-release on DVD.

He was the star of several TV series, assisted by his wooden friends Jerry Mahoney and Knucklehead Smiff.
"Winch" as Paul was usually called, made guest appearances on every major TV show in the 50's and 60's and won numerous awards for his contributions to children's programming.
Paul also used his vocal talents as the voice of many animated characters - most notably as the voice of Walt Disney's "Tigger" for over 30 years.

I have a long way to go before I'm really good at venting, and your DVD took me a whole lot closer in a big hurry! There is so much useful info on that video that I couldn't believe it. Your instruction is right to the point and very understandable. No time wasted. It sure helps me that it was done with humor, as I tend to get a bit bored if I'm serious for too long of a stretch...Some teaching videos over simplify, while others tend to get way too technical...for my taste, anyway. Whew! I finally had a little time to myself to practice vent and to watch Bill Demar's new video. Lee Cornell has done a fabulous job of letting a real pro share some of his best insights - that's the mark of a really exceptional director. I loved the exchange towards the end between Lee, Bill and Chuck Norwood. As an educator and as a learner, what I saw in this video was incredible depth. Bill's clearly thought through just about every conceivable situation while performing ventriloquism. Well, I just got this...( I know it has been reviewed more completely but I thought I would talk about just 1 section)...so now I own everything that Bill DeMar has on the market, and this, like everything else, is brilliant! Section 15 deals with Figure Manipulation. He does it at a slow pace and discusses what is happening while he manipulates the figure. He does this with two or three soft figures and then shows all the emotion you can get out of a hard figure using only the movable mouth. Bingo! - one section easily worth twice the cost of the DVD. Oh by the way, there are 16 sections! One thing you learn by inference is how much importance he places on various aspects of the art. I have Bill's performance tape, his book, his book with Tom Ladshaw, but I still learned SO MUCH from this DVD and this is only the first run through. This is REAL WORLD performance information.
